 |
"Through optimal harmonizing and planning, Daejeon Philharmonic Choir dreams of changing the face of world music history."
Daejeon Philharmonic Choir sings in optimal harmony under the motto, "singing with heart and expressing the mind with love", and has conducted 50-something diverse concerts every year since its establishment in 1981, playing the leading role for the development of Daejeon's music culture. It has opened the forum for cultural exchange with the world through ['93 EXPO opening and closing ceremony performance] , |
| ['96 World Choir Performance (Special Appearance)] , ['98 Korean Choir Grand Contest] , ['99 Korea-Japan Choir Performance] , [2001 Korean Choir Grand Contest] as well as touring the rest of the nation. Including concerts at the beginning and the end of each year, it held four regular concerts as well as concert for the youth, creative music concerts and so forth. As such, it hosts diverse concerts every year (50/year). Besides the above mentioned concerts, it has organized 68 regular concerts, special edition concerts and others for a total of 500 concerts up to this point. For this, it is deeply loved by the citizens of Daejeon. Not only does it expand the scope of its activities through joint concerts held with opera choirs, and other city choirs, it pays attention to the introduction of music creation by contact with Korean composers and world renowned composers of the 20th Century. In particular, the appointment of Conductor Byung-jik Lee (the 6th full-time conductor) in 2001 in the face of the 20th year of establishment is setting the record for "full house" audiances during regular concerts. For the "Grand Choir of 2002 People," Daejeon-Chungcheong-do Alliance Choir harmonized their efforts. In the "Gi-young Ahn Discovery Concert," Gi-young Ahn, who came up with Korea's first song composition collection, arranged and played joint folkloric music (he had gone to North Korea), and "Silk Road", a Korean-Chinese-Japanese joint creation music drama. For these efforts, this cadre is gaining absolute encouragement of the citizens, and as such it is making the utmost effort to be re-born and to create a new model of Korean choirs during the 21st Century. |
